Google DNS vs Kuwait DNS

December 4, 2009 by

With the launch of Google’s public DNS, here are some response time comparisons with Kuwaiti ISPs:

Google
Query time: 316 msec (8.8.8.8)

Qualitynet
Query time: 12 msec (195.226.228.72)

FastTelco
Query time: 22 msec (62.215.6.51)

Wa6aniya
Query time: 28 msec (217.69.178.34)

United Networks
Query time: 26 msec (194.54.222.220)

KEMS
Query time: 206 msec (196.1.69.98) — can someone verify?

Note these results may be bias since they were made from one ISP:

A Better Blocked Page?

September 2, 2009 by

The people over at Qualitynet are planning to revamp their blocked page, you know, the page that you get redirected to when you try to access blocked content? If it was up to you how would you design it? Would a simple, “Blocked by Qualitynet” suffice, or would you go for something more interesting? Leave us a comment, or tweet and mention #kuwaitisps. All suggestions are welcome.

Crawling Internet

March 9, 2009 by

The Internet has been crawling on its knees, again, lately due to rumored cable cuts (yet to be confirmed). The following ISPs have been reported to be affected:

  • Quality Net: Slow
  • FastTelco: Crawling/Timeouts
  • United Networks: Slow
  • KEMS: Slow

It seems that users are able to browse at decent speeds except FastTelco users where they are getting page time outs.

This is gonna stink as I (and many others) won’t get our weekly TV series episodes in time…
